<p>This study investigates the depositional environment, weathering, and provenance of sediments from Campo Beach on the southern coast of Cameroon. The mineralogy and geochemistry of fourteen sediment samples collected from Campo Beach were analyzed. The heavy mineral fraction is dominated by opaque minerals including anatase, augite, chloritoid, diopside, kyanite, glauconite, garnet, hornblende, hypersthene, rutile, sillimanite, staurolite, tourmaline, zircon, and zoisite which indicate both magmatic and metamorphic rock sources. Microtextural analyses reveal evidence of high-energy sediment transport from a nearby source, while the mineral assemblages suggest moderate weathering in the source area. The K₂O/Na₂O and SiO₂/Al₂O₃ ratios indicate a high degree of sediment maturity, and the weathering index reflects moderate to high alteration. All samples plot within the passive continental margin field, confirming a semi-wet depositional environment. The Th/U versus Th diagram suggests that the Campo Beach sediments have a composition similar to that of the depleted mantle. Furthermore, the presence of angular and sub-angular heavy minerals indicates proximal sources, whereas rounded and sub-rounded grains point to more distant sources. These results contribute to a broader framework for interpreting sedimentary environments in Central Africa and underscore the importance of integrated geochemical and mineralogical analyses in deciphering the complex history of coastal sediments.</p>
