Boosting water-splitting efficiency: innovative CNTs-infused erbium selenide electrocatalyst for alkaline media
摘要
Developing cost-effective, highly active, and stable bifunctional electrocatalysts is vital for sustainable energy systems. Herein, we present the synthesis of erbium selenide and carbon nanotubes (CNTs) integrated erbium selenide via a one-step hydrothermal method. The prepared materials were characterized using various techniques: XRD for structural analysis, FTIR for identifying functional groups, SEM for examining morphology, and TGA for assessing thermal stability. The hybrid material shows excellent performance in both hydrogen-evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER), with low overpotentials of 109 mV in HER and 180 mV in OER for 10 mAcm−2. The incorporation of CNTs enhances the erbium selenide performance by increasing the surface area (58 cm2), exposing more active sites, improving charge transfer efficiency, and providing structural stability. These factors lead to improved electrical conductivity, faster reaction kinetics, and a large electrochemical surface area, resulting in highly active and stable electrocatalytic performance for both HER and OER.
