Knieendoprothetik – individuell angepasste Prothesen

Women more frequently experience osteoarthritis of the knee than men, but they often undergo conservative treatments for an extended period and are less frequently provided with surgical options. Due to this delayed intervention and subsequently poorer preoperative function, women report residual pain more often after total knee arthroplasty, despite achieving improvements comparable to those observed in men. Given this context and the acknowledged anatomical differences, the market has seen the introduction of gender-specific knee arthroplasty implants. Although recent studies have not yet proven a clinical advantage of these gender-specific implants over the traditional unisex models, the inclusion of gender-specific considerations in knee arthroplasty is critical to optimizing treatment outcomes. In the present article, these considerations are discussed and modern approaches are proposed.
