Integration of reactive dividing wall column process into sustainable ethyl acetate production
摘要
Ethyl acetate is an essential natural chemical with extensive packages as a solvent and intermediate in industries like meal processing, perfumes, pharmaceuticals, and so forth. Conventionally, ethyl acetate is produced with the aid of the esterification reaction between ethanol and acetic acid. The current work focuses on the process of production of high purity ethyl acetate through a new process scheme which incorporates a reactive dividing wall distillation column (RDWC). In order to ascertain the stature of the proposed process, a correlative analysis was carried in terms of heat duty requirements, carbon dioxide emissions and costs of the proposed scheme and reactive distillation (RD) scheme. An exceptional reduction of 74.8% in the energy requirements (reboiler duty) of the two process units RD and RDWC have been found. While comparing the impact of the process schemes on environment the proposed RDWC process was found to be a cleaner route with 30% reduction in CO2 emissions for 99.9% (mol.) purity of ethyl acetate. Additionally, an 11% reduction in total investment costs was achieved with the RDWC process compared to the RD process. Overall, the proposed RDWC process demonstrated significantly improved energy efficiency, reduced environmental impact, and lower costs for ethyl acetate production.
