Preferential solvation of L-Alanine in binary mixed solvents of some alcohol in water between 293.15 K and 323.15 K

In this study, the inverse Kirkwood-Buff integrals method was employed to determine the preferred solvation parameters ( \({\delta x}_{1,\text{l}-\text{Alanine}}\) δ x 1 , l - Alanine ) for L-Alanine in four different aqueous alcoholic solutions: (methanol + water, ethanol + water, propan-1-ol + water, and propan-2-ol + water). These solution were analyzed at temperatures ranging from 293.15 to 323.15 K. The values of \({\delta x}_{1,\text{l}-\text{Alanine}}\) δ x 1 , l - Alanine exhibited a nonlinear trend with the concentration of the co-solvent. The preferred solvation parameters ( \({\delta x}_{1,\text{L}-\text{Alanine}}\) δ x 1 , L - Alanine ) for L-Alanine in the various aqueous solutions displayed nonlinear fluctuations based on the concentration of the co-solvent. The values were found to be negative in mixtures with a higher alcohol content but positive in those with a higher water content. At temperatures of 323.15 K and 313.15 K, the combinations of methanol (1) + water (2), as well as ethanol (1) + water (2) mostly favored the solvation of L-Alanine by water. The preferred solvation parameters ( \({\delta x}_{1,\text{L}-\text{Alanine}}\) δ x 1 , L - Alanine ) exhibited a peak at 293.15 K for mixtures of propan-1-ol (1) + water (2) and propan-2-ol (1) + water (2). L-Alanine displayed positive \({\delta x}_{1,\text{L}-\text{Alanine}}\) δ x 1 , L - Alanine values when mixed with the co-solvents (propan-1-ol and propan-2-ol). In all the co-solvent mixtures, significant x1 values ranging from 0.l0 to 0.l5 were observed in the non-polar regions of L-Alanine.
