<p>In this study, we report new records of the bush dog, <i>Speothos venaticus</i>, a rare and threatened wild canid, in two protected areas for the Metropolitan Region of Manaus. The records were obtained through consultations with the scientific collection of the Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas da Amazônia, the use of camera traps in two protected areas: the Rio Negro Sustainable Development Reserve and the Alto Cuieiras Reserve in the years 2019, 2020, and 2023, as well as interviews with 84 residents. A total of 11 records were obtained: two through biological material deposited in the collection, five through camera traps, and four through interviews with residents. The occurrence of the bush dog in these protected areas underscores the importance of protected areas near urban regions for conserving threatened and rare mammals. It also highlights the need for actions that promote the coexistence of the bush dog with the people and economic activities in the region.</p>
