<p>Hydric erosion sensitivity is a persistent global environmental challenge that requires interdisciplinary, location-specific approaches for effective mitigation. It poses a significant obstacle to regional development due to the progressive degradation of land resources and the decline of fragile ecosystems. This study aims to conduct a spatial and quantitative assessment of desertification sensitivity in the Wadi Al-Nar Basin using the validated Mediterranean Desertification and Land Use (MEDALUS) approach as the methodological framework. In this study, the MEDALUS framework was integrated with Geographic Information Systems within a multi-criteria analysis to identify environmentally sensitive areas to land degradation in the Wadi Al-Nar district. The assessment was based on several quality indicators, including the Climate Quality Index, Soil Quality Index, Vegetation Quality Index, Anthropic Quality Index, and Density Quality Index. The results show that 1.6% of the study area is classified as very highly sensitive to desertification, mainly located in the eastern sector, where vegetation cover is limited. Highly sensitive areas account for 1.7% of the total area, while 2.3% are moderately sensitive, mainly distributed along the main valleys and in lower watershed areas. In contrast, 94.4% of the basin falls within low- to very-low-sensitivity classes, although these zones may become vulnerable if unsustainable land management practices continue.</p>
