摘要

Efficient and secure sharing of medical images is crucial in digital healthcare, enabling collaboration among hospitals and research institutions. Reliance on third-party cloud storage introduces security risks such as unauthorized access and single-point attacks. Though, traditional cryptographic techniques enhance security but involve high computational complexity and centralized storage, making them vulnerable to single-point attacks. This paper proposes a visual secret sharing-based distributed security mechanism for medical image transmission. The method employs an XOR based visual secret sharing scheme to securely transmit a group of images. The technique uses common share approach to reduce the number of shares, maintain minimum storage and bandwidth requirement. Simulation results demonstrate enhanced security of the proposed technique with an SSIM of approximately 0, neighboring pixel correlation close to 0, a PSNR of \(\le \) 8 dB, entropy of \(\approx \) 8, NPCR of 99.6%, and UACI of 35.49%. The reconstruction quality is further evaluated based on human visual parameters. The results highlight the robustness of the proposed method in securing medical image sharing while ensuring minimum bandwidth and storage requirement, making it a promising solution for secure digital healthcare applications.
