<p>Extended reality (XR) games are expected to gain significant popularity in the near future. However, XR eSports have not yet achieved broad success due to several developmental challenges. This study investigates the potential of XR games to become successful eSports by examining the key factors that influence their adoption. Interviews were conducted with 15 experts, including game designers and eSports stakeholders, both online and on-site. Using content analysis, the findings were grouped into three categories: game design challenges, technology acceptance, and the eSports landscape. Results show that successful XR eSports game design must prioritize competition and skill-based challenges. Games should include core mechanics that allow teams to demonstrate unique abilities. In terms of technology acceptance, ease of use, accessibility, and a diverse game library are crucial for user engagement. In Thailand, affordability is especially important given the country’s lower income levels. Expanding adoption will require focusing on communities most able to access and sustain XR technology. Finally, XR eSports should emphasize robust game mechanics and clear rules rather than aesthetics, ensuring fair and engaging competitive play.</p>
