Statistical Impact of Predominant Characteristics on Knowledge Level and Yield on Pomegranate Crop

Pomegranate is a commercially and important fruit crop. India is the country in the world where pomegranate is available throughout the year. Karnataka is the second largest producer of pomegranate. The average yield of pomegranate found 8 tonnes per acre with economic price in the market. It is more beneficial with respect to more nutrients and optimum utilization of health aspects. There is a need to understand the extent of existing knowledge of farmers on the cropping pattern is very important. Five taluks selected from Tumkur district which cover the total location of the study. Further, Two Villages from each taluk with 200 total farmers were selected randomly for the study purpose. Knowledge assessment made using 11 domains comprising of 87 statements with maximum score of 225. It is evident from the findings that higher respondents belongs to the age group of 40–47 years and education with high school. Respondents possess with 1.1–1.4 acres land with farming experience being 6–9 years on pomegranate crop. Majority (71.5%) of the respondents noticed with moderate knowledge level on Pomegranate growing. Out of 11 domains 8 found to be with moderate and adequate knowledge level. The overall mean knowledge score of 66.0% on Pomegranate growing. Association of characteristics viz., age (χ² = 12.81**), education (χ² = 13.52**), farming experience (χ² = 42.13**) and land holding (χ² = 105.32**) with knowledge level found to be statistically significant (p < 0.01). The findings established positive highly significant relationship between age, family income and farm experience with both crop yield and knowledge (p < 0.01).
