An Efficient Congestion Control Scheme for Large-Scale WSNs

Congestion in wireless sensor networks (WSNs) occurs when the network becomes overloaded, resulting in delays, packet loss, increased energy consumption, reduced responsiveness, heightened collisions, contention among nodes, and decreased network lifetime. In an open deployment environment, sensor nodes are vulnerable to capture by attackers, who can turn them into malicious nodes, posing a threat to sensitive information. Malicious nodes can disrupt the network by dropping packets and consuming excessive energy. Additionally, congestion caused by excessive packet broadcasting by malicious nodes can further degrade the network's throughput. To mitigate these consequences, effective congestion control mechanisms are crucial. This paper suggests an efficient congestion control scheme (ETCCS) in which only trustworthy nodes can transmit the packet in the sensor network. The suggested approach removes the malicious nodes from the WSN and controls the congestion at the node level. Simulation results show excellent performance in trust severity analysis, average time delay (sec), loss ratio (%), and throughput (kbps).
