<p>In response to the current consumer needs, no high-quality, fragrant soft rice is cultivated in the northern rice region. In this study, Utilizing the genotypes of fragrant rice and soft rice, through hybridization and backcrossing, we generate segregated and pyramid materials to cultivate fragrant and soft rice varieties suitable for cultivation in northern regions. The experiment results showed that Liaoxiangruan 1 is a good-tasting, long-grain, fragrant soft rice with ultra-low protein content. Liaoxiangruan 2, on the other hand, is a fragrant soft rice variety carrying the rare Wx<sup>mw</sup> allele. Although the yield performance of the two was not outstanding, their rice quality was overall better than that of the local varieties Liaojingxiang 2 and Liaojing 9 and was comparable to that of Wuxiangjing 113 in the southern region of rice cultivation. The successful breeding of the Liaoxiangruan line of fragrant soft rice is a significant and historical breakthrough in fragrant soft rice cultivation in the northern rice region. It has greatly contributed theoretically and practically to the breeding and cultivation of high-quality <i>japonica</i> rice varieties in this region.</p>

Study on the generation of a fragrant soft rice variety and its rice quality using a fragrant and soft rice segregating population
