Precision genome editing for enhanced resistance against bacterial blight in rice: a comprehensive approach

摘要

Bacterial blight, caused by Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae, is a major threat to global rice production, causing severe yield losses. This study summarizes the results of a novel approach using CRISPR-Cas9 genome editing to improve bacterial blight (BB) resistance in rice. Key resistance-related genes were identified through bioinformatics analysis and experimental validation, followed by targeted gene editing to enhance the plant's immune response. By editing these resistance genes and modulating regulatory elements involved in defense gene expression, a robust defense system was achieved. The CRISPR-Cas9 system was optimized for precision to minimize off-target effects, ensuring both enhanced resistance and biosafety. The findings demonstrate that rice varieties edited with CRISPR-Cas9 show significant improvement in BB resistance, providing a promising solution for sustainable rice cultivation.
