<p>In many bird species, an increase in territorial vocalizations precedes the breeding season, although the extent of vocal output may vary considerably throughout the year. The Tambourine Dove <i>Turtur tympanistria</i>, found across diverse habitats in its Afrotropical breeding range, faces varying environmental pressures, resulting in contrasting nesting patterns even within the same country at different altitudes. To enhance our understanding of the species’ annual cycle, we focused on the year-round vocal activity of Tambourine Doves inhabiting a highly seasonal montane environment in Cameroon. By utilizing passive acoustic monitoring (PAM), we showed that their vocal activity was linked to changing seasons, with the highest song output during the onset of the dry season. As the dry season advanced, their singing gradually declined, remaining at a low level throughout the rainy season. During the day, doves displayed two peaks of vocal activity, especially noticeable in the dry season. The most intense singing typically took place in the morning, with a secondary, lower peak occurring in the late afternoon. Furthermore, doves were more vocal on days with cooler morning temperatures. The analysis also highlighted the promptly constraining effect of rainfall on their singing activity. By utilizing as many as six autonomous recording units, we enhanced the robustness of our findings and gained a better understanding of temporal patterns. We firmly believe that these long-term and extensive data collection approaches are essential for addressing the complexities of avian behaviour and their response to a changing environment.</p>
