<p>Buton rock asphalt (asbuton) is a natural asphalt in the form of rock found on Buton Island, Indonesia. One of the products derived from asbuton is asbuton in granular form, which contains 30% bitumen, known as Buton granular asphalt (BGA) B 50/30. In its use in hot mix asphalt, BGA B50/30 requires a modifier to soften the asphalt bitumen, allowing the bitumen to be released from its minerals. This research aims to develop an appropriate design and mixing method for the use of BGA B50/30 as the substitute material of AC-WC (Concrete-Wearing Course) with a biobinder asphalt from coconut shells (BioCS) as modifier. The design scenarios, scenario 1: the optimum BioCS content is determined from penetration and softening point tests of BGA bitumen modified with BioCS, scenario 2: the optimum BioCS content is obtained from immersion tests of BGA B50/30, scenario 3: The optimum BioCS content is determined from Marshall tests with asphalt binder content (Pb) at 6%, varians of BioCS, and 15% BGA B50/30. The performance of the mixture from each scenario was tested using marshall and volumetric methods by comparing them to conventional AC-WC as a control, which then led to the development of the appropriate mixture design method for BGA B50/30 and BioCS in AC-WC, based on Tukey-Kramer statistical groupings analysis. The chosen mixing scenario was then assessed using Marshall, mechanistic, and microscopic criteria. Scenario 3 stood out, with its performance meeting Marshall specifications and achieving a notable Smix value close to that of the AC-WC control. Microscopic observations revealed excellent bonding between the aggregate and asphalt binder, supported by an asphalt binder film thickness (ABFT) of 9&#xa0;μm.</p>
