<p>This paper analyzes the benefits of using nanoclay as a complementary additive in crumb rubber modified bitumen (CRMB). Up to 5% organo-modified montmorillonite (OMMT) was added to 20&#xa0;wt% CRMB binders. The samples underwent Rolling Thin Film Oven (RTFO) aging and Ultraviolet (UV) aging procedures, and their storage stability, rutting, fatigue, anti-aging performance and temperature susceptibility were evaluated by rheological tests and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR). Results showed that 5% OMMT addition to CRMB binders achieved satisfactory storage stability as per ASTM D 5976, with a softening point difference of less than 2.2&#xa0;°C. Rheological tests revealed that nanoclay addition enhanced rutting resistance as much as crumb rubber, increasing the high-temperature performance grade by up to 12&#xa0;°C. However, it had no significant effect on fatigue performance. Frequency sweeps and FTIR analysis showed that OMMT protected both crumb rubber and base bitumen from aging. RTFO-aging indices were reduced by half after OMMT addition, whereas UV-aging indices were improved to a lesser extent. Temperature susceptibility was reduced between 7 and 12%. Results indicate that OMMT can be considered as an excellent additive for crumb rubber modified bitumen, as it improves storage stability and enhances thermo-oxidative and UV-aging resistance. Their synergistic combination can promote the use of crumb rubber from scrap tires in the paving industry, enabling the production of pavements with longer service lives and superior mechanical performance.</p>
