摘要

The current recycling efforts in the ceramic industry are limited. Previous studies support the recycling of ceramic waste into concrete production, but most studies focus on using it as a coarse aggregate rather than a fine aggregate. Additionally, there is a lack of thorough research on the durability of concrete when using recycled ceramic tiles as aggregate. The study investigated the performance of concrete using recycled ceramic tile (RCT) fine aggregates, analysing its mechanical and durability properties such as density, slump height, compressive strength, water absorption resistance, chloride ion ingress resistance, and acid attack resistance. Experimental findings showed that using RCT as fine aggregate lead to lighter-weight concrete compared to using river sand. As the RCT content increases, workability decreases, but compressive strength increases proportionally. On durability performance, specimens containing RCT performed better in terms of resistance to water absorption, chloride ion ingress and acid attack. This improved performance of RCT concrete was attributed to its more compact and refined microstructure. This therefore suggests that RCT can be used as a fine aggregate material in concrete production, especially where there is a comparative economic advantage.
