The Impact of Cultural Dimensions on Competitiveness: Insights for Nations and Organizations

  • James P. Servi

摘要

This research explores the influence of cultural dimensions on competitiveness, focusing primarily on macro-level, national entities and infers those findings to the business and organizational level. Drawing from empirical findings, key dimensions were identified that correlate with enhanced competitiveness. Specifically, higher scores in performance orientation, future orientation, institutional collectivism, and uncertainty avoidance contribute to greater competitiveness. Conversely, lower scores in in-group collectivism and power distance are associated with increased competitive advantage. Organizations seeking to improve their competitive edge can leverage cultural dimensions by emphasizing essential elements within each dimension. In addition, this study extends the application of cultural dimensions beyond traditional fields, advocating for their inclusion in global competitiveness assessments. By examining the research question to determine the relationship between cultural dimensions and national competitiveness, the World Economic Forum and other similar organizations could incorporate these insights to guide countries toward effective improvement strategies.
