摘要

In the current context of environmental pollution and health hazards, the need of the hour is to use natural products as consumables including textiles. In this background, an attempt is made to use textile-grade novel Bauhinia vahlii fibre for conventional textiles extracted from the Bauhinia vahlii plank bark. The current study encompasses the development of cotton and novel Bauhinia vahlii fibre blended yarn in varied blend ratios, i.e., 90:10, 80:20, and 70:30, respectively, using a rotor spinning system. The study also covers the effect of the Bauhinia vahlii fibre content on the physical properties of the developed yarn and the comparison with 100% cotton yarn. The analysis of different physical properties proclaims that the blending of Bauhinia vahlii fibre in a lower blend ratio (90:10 cotton: Bauhinia vahlii fibre) with cotton fibres improves the yarn unevenness%, yarn quality index, yarn tenacity, elongation%, and hairiness of the yarn. The most important characteristic of the cotton Bauhinia vahlii fibre blended yarn is that it gives a natural melange effect due to the natural tan colour of the Bauhinia vahlii fibre. Higher colour strength and better colour uniformity were achieved in the case of a higher blend ratio of Bauhinia vahlii fibre (70:30 cotton: Bauhinia vahlii fibre).
