Crop Residue Management for Soil Health and Environmental Sustainability: A Comprehensive Review

Sustainable agricultural productivity and soil health are of paramount importance to meet the growing demands for food and income. Conventional farming practices, characterized by intensive tillage and reliance on chemical fertilizers, have historically compromised soil health, leading to resource inefficiency, pollution, erosion, and loss of soil structure. To counter these challenges, it is essential to sustain agricultural practices that promote soil fertility and productivity. This review highlights the transformative potential of crop residues as a sustainable alternative to chemical fertilizers. By incorporating crop residues, one can enhance soil health, mitigate greenhouse gas emissions, combat soil degradation, sequester carbon, and remediate pollutants.
