Assessing the Role of Biostimulants in Affecting the Production of Radish and Eggplant

The demand for quality food products is increasing every day, and there is a need for higher food production to feed the growing population worldwide. The current study aimed to find the effect of biostimulants on radish and eggplant production. The first experiment was based on radish with the following treatments: chemical fertilizers (IF), Isabion® (I), glycine + lysine + aspartic acid (GLA), moringa leaf extract + GLA (B), 25% NPK + B (C). The second experiment was based on eggplant with the following treatments: chemical fertilizer (CF), glycine (GL), lysine (LY), aspartic acid (AA), and vitamin B complex (VB). The first experiment showed that GLA improved the phenolic contents in root (8.39%) and shoot (268.33%) compared with IF. In the shoot, ascorbic acid contents were significantly enhanced with C (72.31%), B (62.08%), and GLA (53.29%); in the root, ascorbic acid contents were also improved with C (66.01%), B (66.59%), and GLA (63.03%). The highest plant fresh weight was observed in B (165 g), GLA (146 g), and ISA (126 g) compared to IF (54.67 g). In the second experiment, AA improved the fresh weight of eggplant (159.96%), the N (91.18%), and P concentration (16.24%) in fruit, and GL improved the K concentration (5.95%) in fruit. The shoot N concentration was significantly higher in GL (43.59%), and the P concentration improved with GL (46.58%) compared to the CF. Biostimulants can be a favorable source to enhance vegetable production while lowering chemical fertilization. Long-term field experiments could be conducted in the future to identify the potential of biostimulants.
