<p>Insect pollinators contribute to more than just agriculture and food production; they are also vital for maintaining plant biodiversity and ecosystem functioning. <i>Xylocopa olivacea</i> is a large carpenter bee known to pollinate many tropical crops, yet its role on <i>Hibiscus sabdariffa</i>, an important cultivated plant in the region, has not been fully documented. This study therefore examined the foraging and pollination activities of this bee at Meskine (Maroua, Cameroon) during the June 2018 and 2019 cropping seasons, in order to evaluate its effect on fruit and seed yields of the crop.The experiments involved 540 flowers, divided into four treatments: unbagged flowers, bagged flowers, bagged flowers exposed to a single visit from <i>X. olivacea</i>, and bagged flowers that were uncovered and rebagged without any insect or other life form visit to exclude the effect of hand manipulation. The daily rhythm of activity, foraging behaviour, and pollination efficiency of <i>X. olivacea</i> (fruiting rate, number of seeds per fruit, and percentage of normal seeds) were evaluated. Results indicated that <i>X. olivacea</i> foraged on Roselle flowers throughout the blooming period. accounting for 40.89% of the 1670 recorded insect, collecting both nectar and pollen. The fruiting rate of unbagged flowers was significantly higher than that of bagged flowers. <i>Xylocopa olivacea</i> induced a significant increase in the fruiting rate by 49.98%, the number of seeds per fruit by 5.40%, and the percentage of mature seeds by 13.99%. Thus, conserving <i>X. olivacea</i> nests near <i>H. sabdariffa</i> fields can enhance fruit and seed production in the region.</p>
