<p>The fall armyworm (<i>Spodoptera frugiperda</i> J.E. Smith) has become a significant threat to maize production in India due to its invasive nature and high damage potential. To assess the economic impact and quantify avoidable yield losses, a two-year field study (2021–2022) was conducted at SKUAST-Jammu using maize hybrid ‘Kanchan K25’ under protected (treated with neem oil, Spinosad, and Chlorantraniliprole) and unprotected conditions in a randomized block design. Data on larval population, foliar and ear damage, and grain yield revealed significantly lower pest incidence and higher yields in treated plots. Avoidable yield losses were found to be 33.45% in 2021 and 34.24% in 2022. The results underscore the importance of timely pest management interventions and recommend integrating chemical control with regular monitoring to minimize fall armyworm-induced losses in maize.</p>
