<p><i>Leucinodes orbonalis</i> is a key pest of eggplant in the Indian subcontinent and southern Asia, causing characteristic symptoms such as “dead-hearts” during the vegetative phase and circular holes plugged with excreta on infested fruits. In the present study, 182 accessions representing 17 <i>Solanum</i> spp. were evaluated for eggplant shoot and fruit borer (ESFB) infestation. Three species, viz., <i>S. violaceum</i>, <i>S. trilobatum</i>, and <i>S. lasiocarpum</i> were recorded for the first time worldwide as new hosts of <i>L. orbonalis</i>, on which the pest was able to complete its life cycle. Additionally, <i>S. insanum</i>, <i>S. incanum</i>, <i>S. aethiopicum</i>, <i>S. melongena</i>, <i>S. torvum</i>, <i>S. nigrum</i>, <i>S. americanum</i>, <i>S. macrocarpon</i> and <i>S. virginianum</i> were confirmed that <i>L. orbonalis</i> infest fruits of these species with varying degrees of infestation in a free-choice experiment. Biochemical analyses of fruit borer-tolerant <i>S. melongena</i> accessions/landraces (IC636525v, Local melongena-Idduki and Kurumbotribe) revealed higher phenol and polyphenol oxidase levels, along with lower protein and sugar contents, suggesting enhanced resistance to <i>L. orbonalis</i>. Among morphological traits, pericarp thickness showed a positive relationship with ESFB resistance.</p>
