<p>Lycaenids are the most diverse group of butterflies’ family consisting of over 6000 species world-wide. These group of butterflies are small blue in colour and known as ‘gossamer winged butterfly. They inhabit a wide range of environments, from lowland to alpine ecosystem and plays a crucial role such as pollinator and bio indicator. The study investigates the diversity of Lycaenid butterflies across three elevation ranges to assess species richness and abundance in the Miao Wildlife Range of Namdapha National Park, situated in the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh. A total of 66 species of Lycaenids were recorded covering 35 genera and 6 subfamilies across lower elevation (200-400 m), intermediate elevation (500-700 m) and higher elevation (800-1000 m). Subfamily Polyommatinae found to be dominate with 37 (56%) species, followed by Theclinae 21 (32%), Miletinae 3 (5%), Curetinae 2 (3%) species, Lycaeninae 2(3%) and Poritiinae 1(1%) covers the least number of species. Intermediate elevation found to be the most diverse with highest species diversity (H´=3.85) followed by lower elevation (H´=3.38) and higher elevation (3.07). The finding suggested that intermediate elevation is rich in Lycaenid species diversity as well as individual abundance. We can conclude that elevation specific pattern highlights the importance of intermediate elevation ecosystems for butterfly conservation as well as emphasizes to take better strategies to preserve the biodiversity.</p>
