Screening of Eucalyptus clones and their morphological basis of resistance against gall Wasp (Leptocybe invasa)
摘要
Leptocybe invasa Fisher & La Salle (Hymenoptera: Eulophidae) is an invasive pest, native to Australia that causes serious damage to eucalypts all over the world. Use of resistant clonal material could be a cost effective and environment friendly management strategy for the management of L. invasa. In this study, thirty-seven Eucalyptus clones from eight different sources were screened against L. invasa at Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, India. Incidence of gall wasp (number of galls per meter branch length from top canopy) was recorded at fortnightly intervals. Data on morphological characters (leaf colour, position of gall and midrib thickness) was also recorded to study the role of these characters in imparting resistance/susceptibility against L. invasa. Clones were divided into different categories viz. most resistant, resistant, moderately resistant, moderately susceptible and susceptible based on relative gall-wasp infestation. It was observed that five clones belonged to most resistant category with no insect attack and twenty-one clones belonged to the resistant category (0.21–5.62 galls). Clones 2045, P-48, 2013 and C-72 were categorized as moderately resistant (6.37–8.02 galls). Clones PE-3, 417, 316 and PE-7 belonged to moderately susceptible category (13.62–16.93 galls). Clones PE-8, PE-5 and PE-9 belonged to the susceptible category (18.11–23.51 galls). The value of weightage percentage of resistance (WPR) was found highest (100%) in most resistant clones PE-6, PE-4, PE-14, 7 and 2070 with no insect attack. The value of WPR ranged between 76.09 and 99.11% in resistant clones, while, value of WPR was 0–23% in susceptible clones PE-9 (0.00%), PE-5 (7.88%) and PE-8 (22.96%). Negative correlation was recorded between midrib thickness and mean number of galls per meter branch length (-0.550). Resistance to L. invasa differed among Eucalyptus clones and resistant clones identified during this study can be used for commercial cultivation to reduce the losses caused by this pest.
