Identification and chemical analysis of dwarf cashew genotypes for integrated management of Anacampsis phytomiella

The selection of genotypes resistant to attack by Anacampsis phytomiella (Busck) is an important strategy in the integrated management of cashew pests. This study evaluated 13 dwarf cashew genotypes for infestation and production under field conditions, with two of them (CCP 76 and BRS 226) being commercial genotypes used as controls. Based on the infestation results, the most and least infested genotypes were selected for analysis of population fluctuation and anacardic acid (triene, diene and monoene) content. The genotypes PRO 105/5, PRO 143/7 and PRO 155/2 have the lowest percentage of infested nuts, while the genotype PRO 130/1 is the most infested, with a percentage of infested nuts above 15%. Regarding cashew nut production, the genotypes PRO 105/5 and PRO 130/1 are in the least productive group, while PRO 143/7 has an intermediate production. The healthy clones, Pro 155/2, Pro 130/1 and CCP 76, as well as the infested clone, Pro 155/2, had similar anacardic acid profiles. However, Pro 143/7, both healthy and infested, was located between the monoene and triene vectors, indicating a moderate positive correlation with these compounds. This means that the presence of A. phytomiella causes a noticeable change in the chemical profile of the HPLC of this genotype. Following infestation, there was an increase in diene in this genotype, which also showed low infestation and medium productivity.
