<p>Seed beetles of the family Chrysomelidae and subfamily Bruchinae are pests that cause substantial damage to legume crops, reducing their availability for human and animal consumption. Legumes are an essential food crop in the Congo owing to their protein-rich seeds, high yield, and soil-enhancing benefits when grown with cereals. In this study, we focused on bruchids that preyed on two varieties of peas, <i>Cajanus cajan</i> and <i>Vigna unguiculata</i> subsp. <i>cylindrica</i>, in the Republic of Congo. Eighty bruchid individuals were considered from two main pea-growing departments, i.e. Bouenza and Niari. Specimens were placed in the field using baited traps, and the affected seeds were manually selected from the storage areas. Individuals were categorised to the species level based on morphological traits and molecular barcode analyses. This is the second time that 12&#xa0;S rRNA sequences of bruchids from the Republic of Congo have been deposited in GenBank. This study highlights the need to add DNA sequences from regions with inadequate technological resources to the GenBank database to enhance its quality.</p>
