<p>Background: Malaria is a leading public health concern in Ethiopia, despite the implementation of vector control interventions. To step up effective malaria prevention efforts, it is imperative to monitor <i>Anopheles</i> behaviour. This study aimed to investigate the feeding behavior of <i>Anopheles</i> in selected localities of Dembiya District. Methods: From June 2018 to May 2019, indoor and outdoor samples of adult <i>Anopheles</i> were collected from Guramba Bata and Arebiya study sites using Center for Disease Control miniature light traps (CDC light trap), pyrethrum spray catches, artificial pit shelters, and mouth aspirators. Collected <i>Anopheles</i> mosquitoes were identified to a species level and their blood meal source was determined using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Results: <i>Anopheles arabiensis</i> showed a six times greater preference for bovine blood than to human blood. Similarly, <i>An. pharoensis</i> showed 15 times high preference for bovine than a human blood. The difference between the indoor and outdoor Human Blood Index (HBI) of <i>An. arabiensis</i> was statistically significant. Conclusions: This study revealed that <i>An. arabiensis</i>, <i>An. pharoensis</i> and <i>An. funestus</i> had a higher preference for bovine blood over human blood. Thus, it is crucial to consider cattle’s and other domestic animals when designing vector control strategies.</p>
