<p>White fly (Bemisia tabaci) is one of the major economically important insects on tomato plants. The control of white fly pest is predominantly based on synthetic insecticides that are harmful to human health and the environment. For environmental safety, plant extracts and essential oils were used against various pests as pesticides alternatives. In this study, we tested the pesticidal activity of two plant extracts and three aromatic essential oils against white fly population on tomato plants under field conditions, in the two successive summer seasons of 2021 and 2022. The treatments were Garlic extract (Allium sativum) at 5 ml / L., Lemon grass extract (Cymbopogon citratus) at 25 gm /L., Anise oil (Ocimum basilicum) at 0.5%, Basil oil (Pimpinella anisum) at 0.5%., Eucalyptus oil (Eucalyptus spp.) at 0.5%., Ethyl acetate (Solvent) and tap water (Control). The plants were sprayed three times at two-week intervals starting after 40 days from transplanting. The chemical compositions of plants extracts and essential oils were analyzed by GC-MS analyses. All treatments reduced white fly population density significantly and reduced the percentage of leaflets on tomato significantly also. The highest reduction was recorded by basil EO, followed by lemon grass respectively. The main compounds in plant extracts were organosulfur compounds in garlic and citral (geranial and neural combination) in lemon grass. While, the main compounds in EOs were Estragole and E-anethole in anise oil, methyl chavicol in basil oil and citronellal in eucalyptus oil. These compounds are responsible for the insecticidal activity of plant extracts and aromatic essential oils. The activity of these compounds may due to these active antioxidant properties, repellence, antifeeding or toxicity properties. Based on our findings, we propose that these plant extracts and aromatic essential oils serve as natural pesticides, and we recommend their integration with other Integrated Pest Management programs for whitefly control.</p>
