<p>The increasing rate of Boko Haram insurgency, farmer-herder clashes, and kidnapping in Nigeria has resulted in food shortage and high cost of protein sources like beef, chicken, and fish. This challenge could be curbed with the production of edible insects which contain several nutritional benefits like calories, protein, fat, vitamins, and minerals, depending on their species, developmental stages, and diet. Unfortunately, the benefits and competencies in producing, preserving, and marketing edible insects are still largely unknown to the public, including the prospective farmers in Nigeria. Moreover, in Nigeria, some edible insects are not allowed by male and female due to certain religious and cultural beliefs, which could significantly impact the perception and acceptance of integrating edible insects into the Animal Husbandry Curriculum in Senior Secondary Schools. Hence, this study determined teachers’ perception of integrating edible insects into the Animal Husbandry Curriculum in Senior Secondary Schools in Nigeria to equip the future generation with the relevant competencies for alternative sustainable protein supply. The study was carried out in Enugu State, Nigeria. The participants for the study comprised 162 agricultural science teachers. A questionnaire titled: Edible Insects Integration in Animal Husbandry Curriculum Questionnaire (EIIAHCQ) was used to collect data using a descriptive survey research design. Data collection was conducted with the assistance of six research assistants. The study identified - Define the term insect, mention the types of insects (Edible and non-edible), outline common edible insects in Nigeria, state the importance of edible insects in Nigeria, enumerate the nutritional benefits of edible insects, list challenges facing the consumption of edible insects in Nigeria, describe climatic conditions suitable for the rearing of edible insects, state and explain the host plants and seasonal occurrence of edible insects, list the different methods of rearing edible insects, describe the housing, feeding, and management of edible insects, list and explain the methods of harvesting and processing of edible insects as the objectives to be included in the curriculum. For the contents the study identified -Concept of insect, types of insects (Edible and non-edible), edible insects commonly found in Nigeria, importance of edible insects in Nigeria, nutritional benefits of edible insects to man, challenges facing consumption of edible insects in Nigeria, climatic conditions suitable for rearing of edible insects, host plants, and seasonal occurrence of edible insects, methods of rearing edible insects, housing, feeding, and management of edible insects, methods of harvesting and processing of edible insects to be integrated into animal husbandry curriculum. The study identified the following as the teaching methods-demonstration, problem-solving, discussion/lecture, laboratory/experimentation, project teaching, field trip, inquiry/discovery, assignment teaching, facilitated peer-tutoring and blended learning methods. For the evaluation methods the study identified-completed projects/experiments, oral presentations and examinations, paper and pencil tests or class work, essay/objective examination, notebooks evaluation, standardized tests, individual scorecards and checklists, supervised-practical examination and questionnaire as evaluation methods to be included in the curriculum. The study revealed that there is no significance gender-based differences in the opinion of teachers on objectives, contents, teaching and evaluation methods of edible insects to be integrated in animal husbandry curriculum in Nigeria. The federal and state ministry of Education should integrate the findings of this study into the curriculum of Animal Husbandry in Nigeria to enhance protein supply and curb food insecurity now and future.</p>
