<p>The main issue with groundnut grown in the summer is sucking insect pests. Among these, leafhoppers can cause economic damage throughout the crop growth period. Therefore, it is important to manage leafhoppers effectively to reduce the crop losses. Identification of sources of resistance is way to minimize yield losses. Host plant resistance is an important component of integrated pest management strategy for leafhopper resistance. In light of the aforementioned information, a study was undertaken. In this study, 44 groundnut cultivars were tested for resistance to the prevalence of leafhoppers under field conditions at the Main Agricultural Research Station, All India Coordinated Research Project (AICRP) on Groundnut, Dharwad, Karnataka, India, in 2020 and 2021. Based on initial resistance evaluation studies at field level in 2020 and 2021, 19 genotypes were selected for further studies such as host preference and oviposition preference studies in glasshouse conditions and host plant resistance by pest infestation evaluation in field. Biochemical components and morphological parameters were examined in the chosen genotypes from each group. Three species of leafhoppers i.e., <i>Empoasca kerri</i> Pruthi, <i>Amrasca biguttula</i> Ishida and <i>Seriana jaina</i> (Distant) were observed in the research plot. However, 2 genotypes were categorized as highly resistant (Dh 256, RST-1–2020-12), 6 were resistant, 23 were moderately resistant and 10 were susceptible. While, only 3 genotypes were highly susceptible. Results indicated that, higher amount of proteins, phenols, tannins, high trichome density, wax content of leaf, leaf colour and chlorophyll content imparted resistance against leafhoppers.</p>
