<p>Numerous insect species, including hemipteran insects, harbour bacterial endosymbionts. <i>Bemisia tabaci</i>, whitefly, is a devastating agricultural pest that harbours a wide range of bacterial endosymbionts. The prevalence of endosymbionts in whiteflies can vary depending on the geographic location, environmental conditions, and agricultural practices. In regions with heavy pesticide use, some studies have found shifts in the types of endosymbionts present in the whitefly populations. The present study investigated the prevalence of endosymbionts in <i>B. tabaci</i> populations from 24 Indian locations, focusing on their genetic diversity and geographic distribution, particularly their association with cotton, pumpkin, brinjal, potato, and mung bean as the primary host plant. Diversity of four key endosymbionts, mainly <i>Portiera</i>, <i>Rickettsia, Arsenophonus</i>, and <i>Cardinium</i> was studied. All whitefly samples were meticulously examined for symbiotic bacterial association utilizing specific primers designed to target the 16S rRNA gene. The primary endosymbiont, <i>Portiera</i>, was consistently identified in all <i>B. tabaci</i> samples. However, negligible variations were noted in the prevalence rates of secondary endosymbionts across the <i>B. tabaci</i> populations. Presence of <i>Arsenophonus</i> (88%), <i>Cardinium</i> (92%), and <i>Rickettsia</i> (96%) in whiteflies sourced from various locations was uniform. Notably, no significant disparities were observed in the distribution patterns of secondary endosymbionts within the whitefly population. Total 86 sequences obtained in this study (<i>Portiera</i>-24, <i>Arsenophonus</i>-21, <i>Cardinium</i>-22, <i>and Rickettsia 23</i>) have been submitted to gene bank to confirm their identity. Minor variations were observed in the occurrence of secondary endosymbionts in whitefly samples from different locations.</p>
