<p>Larval development and feeding behavior of the jute semilooper, <i>Anomis sabulifera</i> Guenee (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) was studied with ten wild germplasm each, belonging to wild jute species, viz., <i>Corchorus tridens</i> Linn., <i>C. pseudo-olitorius</i> Islam &amp; Zaid, and <i>C. aestuans</i> Linn. and cultivated jute species, <i>C. olitorius</i> Linn. (var. JRO 204) (Malvales: Malvaceae) under laboratory conditions consecutively for four years. The wild germplasms exhibited remarkable and significant differences pertaining to various insect parameters viz., larval feeding behavior, larval survival, larval weight, pupation percentage, pupal weight and adult emergence. Wild jute germplasms WCIN 188, WCIN 092 belonging to <i>C. tridens</i>; WCIJ 123, WCIN 009 belonging to <i>C. aestuans</i> manifested lowest larval survival percentages (0.00 ± 0.00%), least larval weight gain (0.00 ± 0.00&#xa0;mg) at 9 DAF, least pupation percentage (0.00 ± 0.00%) and pupal weight (0.00 ± 0.00&#xa0;mg) and least adult emergence (0.00 ± 0.00%) implicating to be the least preferred species by <i>A. sabulifera</i> larvae. The wild germplasm WCIN 182 belonging to <i>C. pseudo-olitorius</i> documented maximum larval survival percentage (85.83 ± 1.72%), maximum mean larval weight (193.64 ± 2.59&#xa0;mg) at 9 DAF, highest pupation percentage (86.38 ± 0.82&#xa0;mg) and mean pupal weight (107.03 ± 2.46&#xa0;mg) and maximum adult emergence (82.4 ± 1.20%) depicting to be the most preferred germplasm. With due consideration of the biochemical contents of the wild jute germplasms, total protein content had a significant positive correlation with the larval survival, larval weight, pupation and adult emergence of <i>A. sabulifera</i>, while that of polyphenol oxidase and total phenol were negatively correlated. Wild jute germplasms WCIN 188, WCIN 092, WCIJ 123 and WCIN 009 owing to their higher phenol and polyphenol oxidase contents imparted adverse effects on larval survival, larval weight, pupation and adult emergence indicating the possible antibiosis mechanism of resistance.</p>
