<p>Sporadic re-emergence of coconut nettle caterpillar was reported from Palakuzha (9°53’09.0"N 76°36’08.2"E), Kerala, India during 2022. The slug caterpillar has four tufts of hairs at the broader anterior end and two at the tapering posterior end. A pair of white wavy line with nine tubercles on each segment was prevalent along the mid-dorsum. Based on these morphological features, the slug caterpillar was identified as <i>Mambarilla</i> (<i>Contheyla</i>) <i>rotunda</i> Hampson. Adult moths are small, coated with greyish powdery substance and possess fringes of hairs along the caudal region with hairy bipectinate antenna. Partial nucleotide (<i>COI</i> gene) sequence of <i>M. rotunda</i> has approximately 90% similarity to <i>Spatulifimbria castaneiceps opprimata</i> Hering, which is a common slug caterpillar pest infesting castor, mango and tea. A wide array of defenders in coconut system regulated the outbreak and bio-suppressed the pest population from being flared up. To the best of our knowledge, GenBank Acc. No. OR767903 is the first nucleotide sequence deposit of <i>M. rotunda</i> in the NCBI database.</p>
