Review of taxonomy of the genus Pseudoscolia Radoszkowski, 1876 (Hymenoptera: Apoidea (Spheciformes): Crabronidae: Philanthinae) in Egypt, with the description of the hitherto unknown male of Pseudoscolia efflatouni (Mochi, 1939)

The taxonomy of the Egyptian species of digger wasps of the genus Pseudoscolia Radoszkowski, 1876 (Crabronidae: Philanthinae) was reviewed. Six species were recorded: Pseudoscolia dewitzi (Kohl, 1889), P. efflatouni (Mochi, 1939), P. pharaonum (Kohl, 1898), P. sinaitica (Mochi, 1939), P. soikae (Mochi, 1939), and P. spinulicollis (Mochi, 1939). Pseudoscolia berlandi (de Beaumont, 1949) was treated as a doubtful record in the present study until otherwise confirmed. The hitherto unknown male of P. efflatouni was described and illustrated. The male P. spinulicollis was also recorded for the second time after being first described by Pulawski (1964). A key to the Egyptian species was provided. Illustrations to all important characters of species under study were also provided.
