摘要

This study addresses critical questions regarding the impact of media coverage on chemical weapon attacks in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. Through interviews, a survey, and analysis of open-source data, the study examines the region’s information landscape. It looks at issues such as censorship, bias, misinformation and disinformation. It explores barriers to verification and political messaging – as well as alternative approaches to reporting. Key findings reveal the media’s role in shaping perceptions of chemical attacks and the urgent need for fact-based materials. Finally, the paper makes recommendations to improve the accuracy of reporting in order to strengthen public trust in information and build resilience against potential future attacks.
