摘要

Impact of silicon-induced defense mechanisms in rice against Nilaparvata lugens (Stal.) was conducted during 2021–23. Silicon applications were administered via foliar sprays of orthosilicic acid at 2, 4 and 6 ml/L of water alongside soil applications with calcium silicate and fly ash at 0.16, 0.32, and 0.48 g/kg of soil. Results revealed that the application of orthosilicic acid at 6 ml/L of water significantly augmented probing and feeding marks, induced in the leaf sheath of the plant by feeding of N.lugens, to 21.0 in contrast to 3.25 in the untreated control. Both the treatments with orthosilicic acid at 6 ml/L of water and calcium silicate at 0.48 g/kg of soil exhibited adverse effects on hopper feeding behaviour, and reproductive rates, decreased nymphal survival rates and a diminished growth index of 2.32 and 2.34 was observed in plants treated with orthosilicic acid at 6 ml/L of water and calcium silicate at 0.48 g/kg of soil.
