摘要

Cabbage is a common and important vegetable crop used in human diet because of presence of essential mineral elements and phyto-chemicals, which have significant biological implications in human health. For increasing density of macro and micro mineral elements such as sodium, potassium, calcium, cobalt, manganese, copper, zinc and iron in cabbage heads using plant breeding approaches, information on combining abilities and contribution of additive and non-additive components are essentially required. Therefore, considering the significance mineral elements in human nutrition, an investigation was carried out to estimate combining ability using diallel mating design using diverse cabbage lines. Experimental results exhibit significant mean square for Parents vs. hybrids interaction for minerals elements indicate the prevalence of non-additive variance. The proportions of σ2gca/σ2scawere less than unity in all the cases indicate the preponderance of non-additive gene action. The parents identified to be good general combiner were C-5 for five minerals and SEL-7, DARL-851, DARL-852 and DARL-SEL for three mineral contents. General combining ability results of parents showed that none of the parents were good general combiner for all the minerals. The cross C-1 x C-7 (Poor x Poor) had desirable significant specific combining ability for seven minerals. This may be due to existence of high magnitude of non-additive, mainly complementary epistatic effects which can be utilized for development of hybrid rich in mineral content. Thus, the information generated from this study might be important and helpful for breeders to develop cabbage hybrid cultivar with better mineral content through heterosis breeding.
