<p><i>Amomum subulatum</i> Roxb., commonly known as large cardamom, is a highly valued spice crop cultivated in the Himalayan state of Sikkim. Currently, the crop faces a significant threat from a disease called leaf blight, which has drastically reduced productivity in the region. Due to a lack of scientific research on the molecular characterization of the causative organism, this study was undertaken. The characterization of the pathogen involved observing morphological symptoms, such as blighted, sunken lesions with necrotic patches on the leaves of affected large cardamom plants. The causal fungal strain was isolated and characterized using Potato Dextrose Agar (PDA) medium under optimal physiological conditions like temperature (25&#xa0;°C) and pH (7). Morphological and molecular analyses using ITS4, ITS5, and ApMAT gene regions, confirmed the fungal strain as <i>Colletotrichum fructicola</i>. The strain and its sequences have been deposited at NFCCI-ARI, Pune (accession number: NFCCI 4542) and NCBI GenBank with accession numbers (ITS) MN710587 and (ApMAT) MW348934.</p>
