Growth and yield of Pea plants (Pisum sativum L.) in response to incorporated fertilization with or without mineral one

Mitigating the harmful effects of mineral fertilization via the partial or total replacement of NPK by safe, environmentally friendly fertilizers should be considered approaching sustainable agriculture and good human health. A field trial was conducted in November of 2020/2021 and 2021/2022 to examine the effects of NPK (100%, 50%) applied alone and the integrated treatments between (0% or 50% NPK) with organic fertilizers (cow manure & chicken manure), two biostimulants (yeast & ascobein each in two doses), adding to biofertilization. The control was 100% NPK (T1). Growth, yield and chemical characteristics of Pea plant (Pisum sativum L.), cv. “Master-B”, were studied. All the integrated treatments gave better results compared to either 100% or 50% NPK treatments in the majority of the vegetative and yield traits under study. The treatment (T5), which includes the lowest rates of yeast and ascobein, behaved better with respect to the vegetative characters. Meanwhile, those who received the highest rates (T6) gave considerable values of pod and yield characters. Neither T5 nor T6 contain any mineral fertilization. Seed yield of pea plants was enhanced over 50% NPK by applying the integrated treatments T3 & T4. Majority of the treatments recorded values higher than control in chlorophyll a, b and total carotenoids, T6 was the best. As for seeds nutritive value, most of the applied treatments recorded significant increments over control in protein content except for T6. Both T5 & T6 recorded significant increases in carbohydrate content.
