Anticancer properties of Roselle (Hibiscus sabdariffa L), review article

摘要

The calyx, leaves, roots, stems, seeds and callus of Roselle (Hibiscus sabdariffa L) are abundant in phytochemicals such as fatty acids (oleic, octadecanoic and arachidic), anthocyanins, flavonoids, phenols and gossypetin. Hence, offering a great deal of potential for contemporary therapeutic applications. This study aimed to review and document all available evidence and information about various parts of Roselle with a special focus on their bioactive constituents and their activities in treating cancer. Previous studies have proven that Roselle calyx can be used to fight cancer cells, especially oral, breast, lung, colon and leukemia cancer cells. While leukemia, prostate, and liver cancer cells can be combated using Roselle leaves. Roselle roots have the potential to be employed as an antitumor agent. Roselle stems and seeds are utilized to fly melanoma cells. Cervical and colon cancer cells can be eradicated using Roselle callus. Global properties of Roselle parts point to the possibility of significant medicinal uses, which would increase the plant’s value.
