Effects of fly ash application on the growth and disease resistance of peanut plants (Arachis hypogaea) cultivated in different soil types

This article investigated the effects of fly ash (FA) on the growth and disease resistance of peanut plants (Arachis hypogaea) under two soil conditions. Briefly, the experiment was conducted under semi-controlled conditions in a greenhouse at the Faculty of Agronomy, Vietnam National University of Agriculture (latitude 21°0′01″ N, longitude 105°9′32″ W) using a Randomized Complete Block Design with 10 experimental formulas, each repeated 12 times, with each pot serving as a replication. Various major agronomical traits, including the duration of growth stages, plant height, number of leaves, number of nodules, shoot dry weight, disease severity, total pod number and maturity pod number, 10-pod weight, and 10-seed weight, were collected to assess the effects of fly ash on the growth and yield of radish plants under eutrophic fluvisols and plinthic arenosols. The results of this study indicated that the type of soil, ratio of FA applied, and their interactions have statistically significant impacts on the growth, disease resistance, and yield of peanut plants. A lower percentage (5%) of FA-amended soil (95% plinthic arenosols + 5% FA) significantly (p ≤ 0.05) enhanced the growth, disease resistance, and yield parameters of peanut plants. These results could help develop a strategy for applying fly ash for crop cultivation.
