In vitro plant regeneration, flowering and fruiting of Solanum nigrum L. and its acclimatization for field transfer

During the current investigation explants eg. leaves and stems of Solanum nigrum L. were regenerated directly on MS nutrient medium supplemented with various concentrations of plant growth regulators. Present experiment revealed the highest rate of plant regeneration with flowering and fruiting from leaf and stem explants onto the MS media enriched with various concentrations of NAA. Direct plant regeneration with flowering and fruiting was observed on 25 day old nodal stem culture on MS media supplemented with (0.05 mg/L) NAA. Again after another 25 days three successive flower bud formations were observed which were again developed into mature and healthy flowers and fruits inside the culture tube. These in vitro grown plantlets bearing flowers and fruits were successfully transferred to the soil after going through a series of acclimatization processes. The present study aimed to evaluate the potentiality of stem and leaf explants for their direct regeneration ability into complete plantlets with flowers and fruits. In nature, no direct plantlet regeneration from any cutting is ever observed and seeds are the only source for procuring the plantlets. Current investigation also suggested that all leaf and stem derived in vitro grown plantlets bearing flowers and fruits were exactly similar to those of the seed derived field grown plantlets of Solanum nigrum L. studies on the enhancement of some secondary metabolites in in vitro grown plantlets shall be carried out in future/our future work.
