Traditional olive groves in the Mediterranean region form an important multifunctional landscape that supports local livelihoods and provides vital ecosystem services. However, the literature addressing the perceived ecosystem services (ESs) of the olive landscape and their contributions to the various aspects of human well-being (HWB) is limited, despite their significance for successful planning and policy-making. Accordingly, this study revealed the perceptions of rural inhabitants regarding the ESs provided by the Mediterranean olive landscape and their essential contributions to different aspects of HWB in the Akdeniz Protected Area in Northern Cyprus, a unique region recognized for its remarkable biodiversity, diverse cultural communities, and traditional olive landscape. Two social assessment methods were employed, including a social preference assessment on a 1–5 rating scale and focus group discussions (n = 60). The results showed that participants mostly appreciated the ESs of ‘food security’ (4.81 points), ‘landscape aesthetics’ (4.68 points), and ‘traditional diet’ (4.18 points). The overall average ESs score was estimated to be moderate (3.31 points). The ESs primarily contributed to the ‘nutritional’ (4.75 points), ‘mental’ (4.68 points), and ‘physical health’ (4.43 points) aspects of HWB, with an overall HWB contribution of 3.33 points. The average mean degrees of ESs and HWB varied across different cultural groups; therefore, culture and gender were identified as key influencing factors. The findings indicate that the olive landscape provides diverse ESs that enhance HWB; thus, it should be protected and sustainably managed for multiple purposes in the region and elsewhere.

摘要
