Können mit „kraftvoller Erinnerung“ und „absoluter Unordnung“ Museen überhaupt dekolonisiert werden?

  • Yann LeGall

摘要

Decolonization is a long and difficult process that requires a sharp understanding of the mechanisms of imperial extractivism, racial capitalism, and neoliberalism. In this global context of struggles for the recognition of Indigenous rights and intersectional violence, museums are one of many battlefields. They claimed to be neutral and universal, but artists and activists have disclosed them as jealous keepers of looted heritage who, for too long, have sought to conceal their historical ties to enslavement and colonial conquest. Museums must therefore review their position and their role. But should they also disappear? Two books take on the difficult task to lay bare what decolonising museums means and what it presages.
