Ein „Außenseiter in der Mitte“. Historisches Denken, Erinnerungsgeschichte und intellektuelles Engagement in der Autobiografie des französischen Historikers Pierre Nora

The memories of Pierre Nora provide a variety of insights into French intellectual history since 1945. With the concepts of lieux de mémoire and ego-histoire, Nora has considerably influenced the development of historiography since the 1980s. His autobiographical texts present a dense narration of his youth in a bourgeois Jewish family and of his parallel careers after the end of the Second World War as an academic historian and as an editor in the publishing house Gallimard. The narrative of his autobiographies is constructed with the help of the key concept “outsider within”.
