Low-Distortion Rectifying Sphere for Regional Maps
摘要
This paper is about a new auxiliary sphere which could be used as the intermediate surface in an aphylactic (neither equal-area nor conformal) double mapping for regional maps. It has practically no linear distortion (average linear scale is between 0.99999 and 1.00001) for a latitude band approximately 20° wide. The study contains the formulae to derive this low-distortion sphere and some thoughts on practical usability.
