摘要

Mitochondria, the powerhouse of eukaryotic cells, are the central organelle controlling energy metabolism and apoptosis. Based on metabolic needs, mitochondria rapidly modulate their physiological processes to maintain cellular homeostasis. Rapid changes in mitochondrial network are found to be intricately related to cellular health and disease conditions. Due to its high energy demand, neuron activity largely depends on mitochondrial function. Recent evidence demonstrates a link between mitochondrial dynamics and the pathophysiology of various neurological disorders. In this review, we will discuss how the protein interaction networks controlling mitochondrial fission/fusion could be a promising drug target for neurodegenerative diseases.
