摘要

This study evaluates the operational reliability and treatment performance of a submerged Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) configuration sewage treatment plant (STP) at Hotel Trident, Mumbai. Statistical analysis of raw wastewater and effluent data was conducted for key water quality parameters, including pH, chemical oxygen demand (COD), biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), total suspended solids (TSS), total phosphorus (TP), total nitrogen (TN), fecal coliforms (FC), and total coliforms (TC). The MBR system demonstrated high and consistent removal efficiencies: 96.34% for BOD, 88.63% for COD, 98.13% for TSS, 84.62% for TP, and 77.38% for TN. Effluent pH remained stable, and 100% removal of FC and TC was achieved via UV disinfection, ensuring microbiological safety. The novelty of this work lies in applying reliability and compliance index analysis to a modern MBR under current regulatory standards. Regulatory compliance with relevant effluent discharge standards was confirmed using the Compliance Index (CI), achieving perfect scores in the Quality Test (QT), Parameter Test (PT), and Standard Conformity Test (SCT). Z-tests and Wilcoxon Signed-Rank tests further validated statistically significant reductions in pollutant concentrations, even under non-normal data distributions. The case study results show that the MBR STP’s capability to consistently produce high-quality effluent, for decentralized wastewater treatment in high-occupancy hospitality environments.
